An extremely rare Aston Martin sports car, once owned by the manager of Phil Collins, was the biggest seller at a recent Bonhams car auction in Buckinghamshire when the hammer went down at £1.23 million. The highly sought after Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Santion ll Coupe is one of only four in existence, making it an extremely collectable item.

The vintage motor is the result of an collaboration in the 60’s between luxury car maker Aston Martin and Zagato. 19 DBRGT models were manufactured between 1961 and 1963, although they had planned to make 23 of the cars.

Thirty years on, the four unfinished cars which should have been completed in the 1960’s along with the other DBRGT 19 vehicles, were sent down to Zagato’s head quarters in Milan to be completed. While these four cars were designed to be direct copies of the 60’s sports car, the end result was that they were in fact, improved models of the DBRGT run of vehicles originally created.

As one of the only four vehicles of its kind, it’s not surprising the exclusive and tremendously rare Aston Martin was finally sold for a whopping £1.23 million at the Bonhams auction this week.

A total of 46 Aston Martin vehicles went under the hammer as part of the Bonham auction held at the Aston Martin Works, selling for a collective total of £6.5 million, which is a new record for the auctioneer’s Aston Martin sale.
