While the subject of electric cars is always being covered in the news, it appears that as a county, the UK isn’t solely behind the concept of zero-fuel vehicles.

This is according to a new report conducted by European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (EAMA), with the organisation detailing how the UK electric car market is very much in trouble.

New stats show that in the first quarter of 2019, electric car purchasing activity grew by just 2.9 per cent. While there has been growth, when compared to the rest of Europe, it is minimal.

On average, European countries experienced a 40% growth, with France and Germany leading the way. When looking at the number of electric cars sold, France and Germany registered 10,569 and 15,944 respectively. The UK registered just 5,997 fully electric cars, displaying serious room for improvement.

But, what is the reason for this?

Well, according to many, we can put the blame on UK Government. Last year, they decided to cut subsidies for 100 per cent electric cars by £1,000 from £4,500 to £3,500. This inevitably made buying an electric car a less attractive prospect. This was in addition to scrapping the £2,500 grant for hybrid cars.

As well as a recent decline in electric car buying, the UK is also making less cars in general. From Honda closing its large plant in Swindon to Jaguar Land Rover planning to build the next Defender marque over in Slovakia, on the whole, the UK car industry is failing to gain momentum.

Pleased with the outcome of the event were the two teachers responsible for its organisation; Sara Roylance and Karen Williams-Holland.

“There was a DJ, an official photographer, photo booths and a buffet.

“The kids were on the dance floor for three hours solid.

“They really had a good time. Some went off to after parties.”

However, it appears one supercar brand, Lamborghini, is retaining their focus, said to be working on an all-new Lamborghini Aventador model.

Expected to hit our roads in 2022, the new Aventador will be the Italian carmaker’s first electrified model, turning their flagship car into a true presentation of modern car manufacturing.

According to various sources, the car will be a V12 hybrid, with Lamborghini doing their best to support Europe’s emissions target.

This was confirmed in a recent interview with the company’s technology chief, Maurizio Reggiani. Talking to Car Magazine, he said:

“The Aventador replacement will be naturally aspirated and a plug-in hybrid, because this is the best mix of emotion and DNA for Lamborghini,” Reggiani said.

“For the moment it is not a problem to be homologated worldwide.”

The car is said to be modelled on the Terzo Millennio; sporting the Y-shaped daytime running lights that we have all grown to love. These could well be complemented by two aerodynamic fins that will site just behind the front wheels, giving the Aventador an even sportier look than ever before. These are however just the predictions made by concept artist, Avarvarii, who shared his vision of the 2020 model via a drawing shared on social media platform, Instagram.

Just this week, we saw Lotto winner, Odhran Doherty, hire a luxury Hummer limo to collect his winnings, renting the stunning stretched vehicle to travel from Donegal to Dublin. The 23-year-old did however have to turn around just ten miles into the journey. According to the lucky gent, he forgot to take his ticket with him, having to go back and start the ride in the luxury Hummer all over again!

Odhran said:

“My father put it in a safe place, a wee bit too safe now to be honest. We were in Raphoe, near where we got the bloody thing.

Odhran, a farm worker, was given the ticket by his father, Liam. Winning a huge £850,000, he was thrilled to have gifted such a life-changing sum of money to his offspring.

After a long day working with his wife and son on the farm, Liam decided to treat them all to a Lotto ticket.

“We were working on Saturday, Margaret, myself and him on the farm all day and I decided to go up to Raphoe for something to eat.

“I bought three tickets, one for Margaret, myself and Odhran” he recalls.

With his winnings, Odran says he will of course repay his father, wanting to treat his parents to a Massey Ferguson tractor as well as a big family holiday.

Though having a huge nest egg, Odran says he will continue working with his parents on the farm but tells how, “every day is a party now”.

What is a Progress Tour?
