David Beckham is a man that likes to have his fingers in lots of pies. Having last week bought a pub, it appears 2018 is a year of investment for the England Striker. Just this week, the football legend launched Vietnamese luxury car firm; Vinfast.
Taking the stage at the Paris Motor Show, Beckham openly endorsed the three cars from the company; a company that is set to be the first luxury car maker to come from Vietnam.
Speaking at the event the said:
‘It’s incredible, I mean, to create something in such a short space of time is really, it’s really incredible, you know, it really is. Vinfast is a miracle for Vietnam. It’s beautiful. It’s sleek. It’s modern. It’s high tech. It’s premium. It’s incredible. Congratulations.’
Stood holding a Vietnam flag, David placed himself next to Miss Vietnam 2018, Tran Xuey; both giving their stamp of approval on the vehicles showcased.
While it is great to see Beckham backing a new firm like this, he has fallen under criticism. This is because it is just a few days since Beckham managed to swerve a speeding fine, with Beckham’s people getting him off a charge on a technicality. Caught speeding the streets of London in lavish a Bentley, many expected the courts to make an example of the multi-millionaire.
However, commissioning the support of a celebrity lawyer, Nick Freeman, Beckham was not charged even though he admitted to speeding. According to the Daily Mail, this was due to the fact that “the notice of intended prosecution was not received until one day after the statutory 14-day time limit”. Not appearing at the hearing, Beckham instead flew to France with his Spice Girl wife and enjoyed a rather expensive bottle of wine.
