Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII revealed

Say hello to the brand new, eighth-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom. Whilst it may look like a subtle evolution of the previous Phantom VII, it is in fact an all-new machine- and is the very first to be built upon a fresh platform which will form the basis for the Rolls-Royce’s to come.

Its been described by Rolls-Royce as the most technologically advanced model in their fleet. It includes a full-width digital dashboard, more than 130kg of sound and even more impressive tech which has not yet been revealed by the manufacturer.

The brand new motor has been revealed at an exhibition in London’s Mayfair, which was organised to celebrate the last 92 years of the manufacturer.

The Great Eight Phantoms (name of the event) brought together a famous Phantom which was released in each generation. This included the ‘Fred Astaire Phantom I’ which has been driven by royalty and celebrities such as John Lennon in the past.

The styling of the new model brings together an accumulation of traditional Phantom themes. It has a short front with overhangs, a long rear, a giant C-pillar shape and a front face as stylish as a wardrobe. Styling features were forecast by 2016’s 103EX concept, and design director Giles Taylor has said in a statement that the Silver Cloud was an influence.

What is the engine room? Well it features a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine with 563bhp, hooked up to a satellite-aided eight-speed automatic gearbox from ZF.

Previous Phantom’s have had a naturally aspirated V12, and the new turbocharged mill offers a lot of torque. This is around 662lb ft from only 1700rpm. Shrove is sure that it will be more than adequate.

Next in the pipeline for Rolls-Royce is set to be the Cullinan SUV. This motor has been recently spotted in testing at the Nurburgring.
