Following the introduction of a four-cylinder, speculations have raised that hybrid power could be the future for Jaguar cars.
According to the chief product engineer of Jaguar sports cars, Erol Mustafa, there could be an introduction to implement Jaguar cars with hybrid emissions to improve performance.
However, even though its been said that this probably won’t happen any time soon, Mustafa has stated that he “wouldn’t rule out hybrid performance” for future models and developments.
He’s also said that, “We always look at ways of improving the car but it’s got to be the right application for a sports car.”
The F-Type model is of particular concentration when it comes to implementing hybrid power. Though, there are other models in the Jaguar range that have been more focused on to gain good emission numbers. Therefore, Mustafa has said that there’s “no pressure on him” to introduce a certain powertrain that could potentially not be suited to the F-Type.
Additionally, there has been no comment by Mustafa with regards to the possibility of a diesel F-Type. This comes after recent speculation from Autocar.
The comments that have been noted from Mustafa were stated at the New York motor show. In which the new F-Type was revealed by Jaguar. The new model uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium engine, which has already been announced for the XE AND XF saloons. Mustafa has stated that the new model has its own characteristics which makes it different from the V6 AND V8 options. This is despite it being the cheapest F-Type on the market.
