Renault have unleashed their 2027 concept F1 car in the Shanhai motor show.
The car includes four-wheel steering, a closed cockpit, four-wheel drive and active LED lighting.
A statement concluded that the design features are in order for the driver to be “back at the heart of the sport”. They’ve also stated that the concept includes where they think all technology is going to be in 10 year’s time.
The plans include a detailed explanation of the concept and states that it will include a battery five times more powerful than what’s used in F1 cars today. It is planned to produce 1,340bhp of power-to-weight ratio.
It will also include a range of ‘active’ features. These include active aerodynamics and LED lighting. Additionally, there will be an active suspension in order to recover lost energy.
With regards to safety, the plans feature a specific design of the polycarbonate protecting the driver’s visibility to fans. There will also be a couple of ‘pop-up’ roll-over bars which would protect the driver if the car should roll during a race.
Autonomous functions have also been incorporated with regards to control and car safety conditions.
Renault F1 managing director Cyril Abiteboul said: “One role of Renault Sport Racing is to anticipate the future of Formula 1 so that it draws a maximum number of fans in an environment consistent with Groupe Renault’s objectives.
“We look forward to generating inspired conversations with the racing community, fans and enthusiasts through this concept that highlights our ideas and desires.”
However, Renault’s new prototype of the future F1 car means they join a select group of companies that have produced concept designs. Two years ago McLaren unveiled images of the MP4-X. Additionally, in 2010 Red Bull announced the Adrian Newey concept which was inspired by the X1 prototype.
