A 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Torpedo- Sport is set to sell for huge money due to its immaculate condition and snazzy lizard skin seats.
Fitted with the most luxurious features of its time, the automobile is equipped with a disappearing convertible top, polished German silver rim and intricate wood features.
The model is the only working automobile with a short windshield. As well as this it is fitted with a six-cylinder, supercharged engine. The Benz has a four-speed manual transmission.
The motor vehicle was originally ordered in 1927 by Charles Levine whom was the first ever passenger on a Translantic flight. However, the delivery of the motor was cancelled following Levine being sued by the US. According to documents he was sued for unpaid taxes which stretched to a charge of US$500,000 (£403,000 in today’s conversion).
Following this ordeal, the sports car was noticed by oil company director, Frederick Bedford Jnr. This was following its display in the New York Motor Show in the year of 1929. Apparently Bedford used the sports car to grab the attention of his wife. She reportedly left her date in order to have a ride in the elegant and fashionable automobile.
The Mercedes reportedly stayed in the Bedford family for approximately 75 years. It has also won awards such as the Best in Show at the Pebble Beach Event
The sports car is set to sell for roughly £7 million. RM Sotherby is planning on auctioning the car at Lake Como on May 27th. No doubt it will be a popular buy for enthusiastic collectors.
