Driving luxury cars is full of benefits, with comfort just being one of the attractions they boast. Being key signifiers on the road a prestigious car does not go unnoticed, especially when marauding the streets of London.

That said owning a lovely car has its negatives, with unwanted attention being traumatic in some cases.

The Metropolitan Police have said that they will be pulling over all highly-priced marques throughout Kensington and Chelsea to ensure they are being driven by their rightful owners. This comes as the area has experiences many keyless car thefts, with cars such as Range Rovers having their technology cloned, with thieves creating their own ignition keys.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “As part of Kensington and Chelsea’s commitment to reduce theft of motor vehicles, officers are currently stopping prestige vehicles seen being driven in the area after midnight, when many vehicle thefts take place.

“They are checking that the driver is the legitimate owner and offering legitimate owners advice on protecting their vehicles against theft.

“This forms part of their wider strategy to tackle the crime, which includes working with the local authority to raise awareness of the crime and the prevention advice.”

He added that thefts of Range Rovers now make up 10 per cent of all keyless thefts in London while BMW makes up 15 per cent of that total.

It seems that these thieves can avoid the car security systems with a devise that can be purchased for just fifty pounds.

Assistant Commissioner Helen King advised owners of prestige vehicles not to rely on factory-fitted security devices and to use an old-fashioned wheel lock to discourage thieves.
