When asked at the Detroit Auto Show if he though a Ford GT-type sports car would fit into the brand’s selection, he said, ‘I absolutely do. I think there is room for a halo performance car such as that in our lineup.’
Although great news for us it is not the first time we have been teased with the idea of a sporty Cadillac, with the brand unveiling a stunning concept car back at the 2001 Detroit Motor Show.
The vehicle was named the Cien, offering a mid-engine coupe that sported scissor doors. Although visually pleasing it also boasted 750hp and a top speed of 217 mph.
Caddilac started making the vehicle but in 2003 the company’s financial issues put the Cien on a back burner.
General Motors’ current VP of product development, Mark Reuss, will not say for certain that the company is developing a supercar, but he says, “Stay tuned … the brand that sells more performance cars than anybody else in the world, we’re known for surprises.”
What do you think, are these circulating rumours made up of any truth or just a way for the brand to generate some intrigue?
