The most expensive car of all time: the Ferrari 250 GTO

At Cars for Stars we are pretty preoccupied by the high-end vehicle market, passionate to share brands such as Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini with the car-lovers of the country. Offering the most rare and expensive cars, such vehicles have been unobtainable for many, with our hire experiences providing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

In our opinion, the rarer the car the better. According to a recent report the most expensive car in the world is the Ferrari 50 GTO, set to go on sale for a whopping £45m. With only 36 ever made this model is incredibly hard to come by, hence its extortionate price-tag.

Here are some of the vehicle’s credentials:

0-60mph: 6.1 seconds
Max speed: 174mph
Weight (dry): 880kg
Max power: 300 horsepower (221 kW (300 hp) at 7400 rpm)
Power per litre: 102hp/l
Engine: Three-litre V12
Length: 4,325mm
Height: 1,210mm

Set to go onto the open market for the first time in around 20 years this car will no doubt secure the desired asking price, with John Collins of Ascot-based Ferrari specialist Talacrest, confident he can fetch the £45m.

Mr Collins said: “I’ve been looking for a 250 GTO for a while and the opportunity came up with this one, which is the second GTO built.

“It is a beautiful Ferrari, the Holy Grail of classic cars, and it has a great racing history having finished sixth overall at Le Mans and first in class at Sebring.

“I have already had one offer on the car and know there will be interest. It will get you on the Ferrari 70th anniversary tour next year.

Drawing in recent political events Collins explains why now is the right time to invest in such a vehicle.

“After the US election, people are going to be looking at investing in assets and this is a lot better than a painting on the wall.”
