According to reports, the self-driving car market is estimated to achieve roughly $42 billion by 2025. It seems Samsung now want to be a part of the race.
The electronics developer has apparently been given the go ahead to test autonomous vehicles on South Korean roads.
This has come as a shock due to the fact that the company have kept this development very quiet. However, apparently Samsung have already developed a commercialised Hyundai car. The car is said to feature the very best camera’s and sensors. Each of the features will be tried while being tested on public roads.
Announced online by The Korea Hearald, it is said that the company’s plans have been approved from the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Up until now, the company have lowered the number of passengers required from two to one. Samsung are also in talks regarding a production that doesn’t require a steering wheel or pedals.
Roughly two years ago Samsung announced it was putting a team together to develop cars which concentrated on autonomous cars. Previous to the announcement in 2015, the company were already producing chips for self-driving cars.
Samsung are one of many companies that have joined the self-driving car race. Additionally, the statement has come closely after an image was released of Apple’s self-driving car test vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted with numerous sensors and high tech equipment. Apple are just one of many companies that have joined traditional car-makers to produce self-driving automobiles in California.
Companies which are also set to release the brand new cars include General Motors Co, Ford Motor Co, Volkswagen, Alphabet Inc’s Google unit, Daimler AG and Telsa Motors Inc.
