Phantom 1 that resembles a Georgian palace is expected to fetch £700,000 at auction

As you know, at Cars for Stars we are huge lovers of the Rolls Royce brand, eager to celebrate their unique creations. This is why we were incredibly excited to stumble across this gem, a art-filled Rolls-Royce regarded as a palace on wheels.

Filled with art and employing all the charms of a Georgian palace, the car was commissioned in 1926 by Woolworths’ financial director Clarence Gasque. Built as a surprise gift for his wife, Maude, the car is truly unique, taking ten months to complete.

With the seats costing more that your average home the Phantom 1 was a no expense spared project, with the purchaser buying the chassis and drivetrain from Rolls-Royce for just £1,600.

Features include:

  • drinks cabinet
  • make-up cabinet
  •  lavish interior lights
  • hideaway seats,
  • French ormolu clock
  • satinwood veneer panelling

Rob Hubbard, senior motor car specialist and auctioneer at Bonhams, said:

“It is probably the most expensive Rolls-Royce ever made, costing £6,500 in 1926.

“In the old car world, the Rolls-Royce is very well known and it has one of the most magnificent interiors that has ever been produced.

“Inside, the rear of the car is a work of art and a piece of history. It is like stepping inside a very fine Georgian manor house.

“Clarence Gasque had a French link which is why the car has a French influence. The tapestry was made to order and then trimmed to the seats.

“The value is a little unknown. It was sold ten years ago and was rumoured to have made a million. It was also sold for around £1 million in 1986 so it has always been a highly prized car.”

Let us know what you think, will this car fetch the £700,000 experts expect?
