While the petrol heads of the country display an affinity with the Lamborghini brand, could the Italian carmakers be moving towards more environmentally-healthy band values? According to its CEO, very much so!
Talking at the famous Geneva Motor Show, the CEO explored the idea of an all-electric supercar, not ruling out the production zero-emission vehicles that could extend to the very top end of its range.
“Electrification is an area of great attention for us, but I’m not expecting it will happen in the short term,” CEO Stefano Domenicali told Reuters at the Geneva car show.
Wanting to rule out the purely battery-powered Lamborghini before 2025, Volkswagen as a whole is deviating from its tradition of producing high-powered, fuel-guzzling masterpieces. Talking at the show, Domenicali did however say that we need to be patient, with such plans taking time to roll out.
“We need to be realistic” the CEO said. Highlighting that much work has to be done to retain the characteristics of the loud and brash supercar, moving over to an all-electric supercar range boasts its obstacles. These mainly lay in handling, weight, performance and most importantly – price.
Speaking separately on such projects, the CEO said:
“We will be prudent. Of course we will grow sustainably, but being in the luxury market we must not take every growth potential that is there,” he said.
Depending on demand the Urus model could add at least another 3,500 vehicles to Lamborghini’s range.
