An American man was left devastated after he crashed his $300,000 Lamborghini sports car, just hours after he’d collected the vehicle after winning it in a competition. The bright green Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 roadster was one of only 4,099 ever and was offered as the top prize in the “Joe Schmo to Lambo” competition run by a local convenience store in Utah in conjunction with the charity, teamgive, to raise money for children with rare conditions.

After entering the content 18 months ago, the wait was finally over after the winner of the competition was finally announced, with David Dopp being picked as the winner and new owner of the luxury supercar.

However just 6 hours after collecting his prize on Saturday, the father-of-six was watching his dream car being loaded onto the back of a recovery struck after crashing the vehicle while giving his friends and family a spin.

The Lambo supercar which boasts a 6.2 Litre V12 engine and a top speed of 205mph proved more powerful than Mr Dopp’s usual ride, and the car left the road after the driver lost control of the car, smashing through a fence and landing in a field. Mr Dopp admitted to driving at approximately 40-50mph although he was in a 35mph limit zone. Police say the driver had not been drinking, but they believe that speed was factor in the crash.

Luckily the car has not been declared a write-off, however it will require extensive repair work. The Lamborghini is being transported to Las Vegas where it will undergo repair work, the bill for which is still to be calculated.
