It is safe to say that we all had a red and yellow plastic car as a child, powered solely by legs alone. It is also pretty true that when we see one of these toy cars in adulthood a little grim comes over our faces.

An Oxfordshire garage has tapped into this immortal childishness in us, creating an adult version of the Little Tikes vehicle.

Attitude Autos, based in Ambrosden, took apart a Daewoo Matiz to create this fantastic version of a car so ingrained within our childhood.

Managing director Nigel Douglas said the toy was a classic car amongst children and the firm wanted to create a version for adults.

“We had seen them all over the place. They are always in peoples’ front gardens. We thought it would be great if we could get an adult version of it.”

The process of making this hilariously refreshing car took just 16 weeks and is something that its masters are very proud of, as well as seeing immense business opportunity with it.

Mechanics John Bitmead and brother Geoff have come up with a revolutionary idea for the car hire sector, building novelty cars that will provide them with an income.

Geoff said: “We set up the company to make unique bespoke vehicles for film, television and photography”

“John loves the creative idea of it. For me it’s the pleasure of starting with just an idea and creating that into something useable and roadworthy.”

The car has a 800cc engine, 52 horse power and does 0 to 62mph in 17 seconds. It has a top speed 70mph and runs on unleaded petrol.

Mr Douglas said he also wanted to tour around the country with the toy car to raise money for London’s Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. He said: “It is attracting huge amounts of attention.”
