Royal chauffeurs to undergo extra training ahead of William and Kate wedding

Royal chauffeurs will undergo extra training ahead of the forthcoming wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th, it has been reported.

Following the incident which saw a royal car carrying Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall come under attack in London by a group of student protesters before Christmas, security surrounding front-line royals is expected to be stepped up so as to avoid a similar situation in the future.

With such a high profile event as the royal wedding, which is due to take place at Westminster Abbey in central London, there are concerns that protesters angry over recent government spending cuts could target the event for maximum exposure.

To safeguard against any potential problems, those employed as chauffeurs for leading members of the royal family are said to be undergoing intensive driving courses which will help them deal with any difficult situations should they arise.

It’s been reported that Scotland Yard had suggested the royal household start employing police drivers for security reasons, however the Queen is thought to have decided against this option, and instead instructed the current chauffeurs to undertake special security training.

As well as receiving expert training on how to avoid a hijack situation, the chauffeurs will also be coached on how to execute sharp U-turns and 3-point turns, manoeuvres which are particularly challenging to perform behind the wheel of a hefty Rolls Royce limo.

The intensive driving course for the royal chauffeurs is being run by the police. Previously, royal chauffeurs were trained by the SAS, however it is thought this method of training is no longer in practice.

Electric Rolls Royce limo to be unveiled at The Geneva Motor Show

After months of speculation, the waiting is over, as Rolls Royce has confirmed that they will debut their experimental limo at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The Phantom Experimental Electric car, codenamed EXP 102, will make its first public appearance at the motor show, before being whisked off on a world tour taking in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

During its whistle-stop tour the electric limo will be given to Rolls Royce owners as well as media representatives who will test driver the vehicle. The luxury brand hopes to receive useful feedback from the planned test drives which will help to shape the finished product.

The electric Phantom is the first battery powered electric car designed for the ultra luxury market. The swanky limo can be recharged from a domestic mains electric power point, and produces zero emissions so it’s very environmentally friendly.

However all of this green power comes at a cost. While the fuel powered Phantom will set you back approximately £300,000 and achieves around 15 miles to the gallon, the experimental electric Phantom costs just 2p per mile to run, but its cost is likely to be closer to £1 million.

For the last 2 years there’s been mounting speculation that the luxury car maker was in the process of developing a secret electric limo.

Rolls Royce confirmed in a statement that the one-off electric limo will makes its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1st.

Limo Chauffeur tells of car-jacking attempt in New Jersey

A 55-year-old limousine chauffeur has told of his ordeal after two passengers he was transporting attempted to rob him, and steal his limo.

The chauffeur, Herminio Perez, explained how he had collected a party of three from a Chinese restaurant in New Jersey, two men of approximately 18 years of age, and a female.

The female passenger requested to be dropped off at a nearby address, after which the two men also vacated the car, and came around to the driver’s window to ask for change for a $100 bill.

At this point, the chauffeur turned away to reach into his pocket to get the change, when the two men suddenly attacked him, beating him about the face and head and attempting to unfasten his seat belt to drag him from the limo.

Luckily the middle-aged chauffeur was able to beat off the two youths and get away in the limo. Perez drove to a nearby hospital in New Jersey where he needed medical treatment for bruises and cuts he’d sustained around his head area as a result of the attack.

The hospital notified the police about the incident and the authorities are now hunting the suspects responsible for the assault and attempted car-jacking. The chauffeur has been cooperating with the police and claims he is able to take the authorities back to the address where the female passenger left the limo, which may help lead them to the attackers.

Wedding Roller Coaster

Pink hummer limo transports couple to their rollercoaster wedding

A pink hummer limo driven by a smart suited chauffeur transported a bride and groom to their unconventional wedding venue yesterday in Florida.

Richie Kearns and Sherry Blais chose the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day, to tie the knot in a very unusual ceremony.

The day started off traditionally enough, with a chauffeur driven wedding car, red carpet arrival, and the blushing bride wearing a white wedding dress, but there was nothing conventional about this big day as the couple strapped themselves into the Beach Hurricane Rollercoaster to exchange their vows.

The couple from Fort Myers, USA, chose to tie the knot on the only remaining wooden rollercoaster in South Florida to ensure their Valentine’s Day wedding was especially memorable.

After arriving at the Dania Beach theme park, Boomers, in the back of a chauffeur driven pink hummer limo, the bride and groom were treated to a red carpet welcome, complete with a balloon arch, and white tulle draping.

The couple then hopped onboard the rollercoaster which had a sign above which read “Tunnel of Love” along with a handful of bridesmaids as their family and friends looked on as they exchanged vows on the top of the white knuckle ride.

As soon as they were announced husband and wife, the newlyweds were whisked off on the rollercoaster, with the bride hanging onto her veil at one point to stop it from flying off during the ride.

Newlyweds Richie and Sherry said they were inspired to tie the knot on a rollercoaster after they spotted another couple doing getting hitched on a high-speed ride a few months earlier.

Rolls Royce London parade celebrates 100 years of the Flying Lady

One hundred Rolls Royce cars, including the latest models to stunning classic cars, all took to the streets of London this week to celebrate the centenary of the Spirit of Ecstasy.

The iconic symbol has graced the front of Rolls Royce vehicles for 100 years and has become a symbol recognisable throughout the world.

The statuette was designed by Charles Skyes by the request of early car magazine publisher, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu. It’s believed the flying lady was based on Eleanor Thornton, Lord Montagu’s secret lover, who commissioned the statue which was then positioned on his 1909 Silver Ghost. The couple met when Thornton came to work on Montagu’s magazine.

Up until the 20’s, the flying lady was an optional extra on new Rolls Royce vehicles, after which it became a standard part of the iconic design which is now synonymous with the luxury car manufacturer.

However the real flying lady came to a tragic end after a ship she was travelling on was torpedoed close to Crete in 1915. Lord Montagu survived, but in the initial aftermath of the incident, it was thought he had perished too, and his obituary was published in London newspapers.

To celebrate 100 years of this legendary symbol, a motorcade of 100 Rolls Royce cars travelled through central London including Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and Parliament Square this week in a fitting tribute to the flying lady and the contribution she’s made to Rolls Royce over the last century.

Manchester limo hire chauffeur warns of robbery threat

A Manchester limo hire boss took to a popular industry chat forum this week to warn other chauffeurs in the area to be vigilant after he believes one of his chauffeurs was targeted by a gang of would-be robbers.

The incident was reported by online industry magazine, The Chauffeur. Explaining what happened, the limo hire operator described how a gang of four Eastern European men had pulled alongside one of his hummer limos to tell the driver that one his back wheels looked damaged after the chauffeur had just dropped off a client at an inner city address.

However the chauffeur suspected the gang may have been attempting to distract him in order to steal the luxury hummer limousine, and so ignored their warning.

Upon returning to the limo hire depot, the chauffeur examined the hummer only to find there was no problem whatsoever with the vehicle. Given this, the Manchester based limousine hire operator believes the gang of men were attempting to distract the driver with their story in order to get away with the vehicle.

Following the incident, the boss of Earls Wedding Cars took it upon himself to warn other limo hire providers in the area to take extra caution while driving in the area in case the gang plan to target other luxury car or limo hire drivers in the future.
