The hovercraft is an invention that we are yet to see fully-fledged, being a hope for the future that scientists and manufacturers alike crave for. With businesses such as Uber and Google already teasing with self-driving, technologically-driven cars it seems Volkswagen in China has gone one step further, toying with us with a concept video of an incredible airborne vehicle.

Echoing the ability of Back to the Future’s Delorean the VW concept encourages us to visualise ourselves floating through the air to and from work, envisioning what it would be like to float our way through the streets.

People’s Car Project

This video has come off of the back of a Volkswagen PR campaign, with the manufacturers inviting their website visitors to post their ideas online. Pleading for vehicle suggestions it was almost inevitable that someone would press for a futuristic car of this nature, with over 33million visitors and 119,000 ideas put to Volkswagen.

‘The creative ideas from the “People’s Car Project” give us a valuable insight into the wishes of Chinese drivers.’ Simon Loasby, Head of Design at Volkswagen Group China, said.

‘The trend is towards safe cars that can easily navigate overcrowded roads and have a personal, emotional and exciting design.’
