It appears Kim Jong-Un has treated himself to a new car!
The young North Korean leader’s new Rolls-Royce, worth £360,000, was showcased during his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo this weekend.
Many viewers have spotted the distinctive “R” logo on the vehicle’s rim, which sparked speculation that Kim had a new ride. If this is true, then it would make a change from the young leader’s Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard, which carries a price tag of $1 million.
It is believed that the Rolls-Royce Phantom is a bullet-proof model and to be transformed into a fortress would cost around £150,000. The bodywork is so strong that the Phantom can fend off 7.62 bullets from automatic weapons.
The fact that Kim very publicly showed off such a luxurious car to meet with Pompeo was considered a slap in the face for Donald Trump and made mockery of the US’s policy towards Pyongyang. Trump administration has claimed that good progress has been made to verify North Korea’s denuclearization, despite lack of verifiable measures.
CNN, a US news outlet, claimed that the purchase of the Rolls Royce was “almost certainly a violation of United Nations sanctions against North Korea, which prohibit the sale of luxury goods and automobiles to the North Korean government.”
“The Trump administration has insisted that the international community must strictly enforce the UN sanctions levied against North Korea until Pyongyang denuclearises.”
By proudly showcasing the new Rolls Royce, Kim manages to poke fun at Pompeo and Trump Administration and the attempts of isolating North Korea.
