Haven taken on a string of high-profile projects of late, Russian carmakers, Aurus, are beginning to gather some real momentum. Launching the Russian presidential limousine this month, Aurus is a brand that everyone is talking about. Credited for its efforts with their first lineup, the Russian brand has launched the Senat and Senat Limousine, showcasing these stunning cars at the Moscow motor show.
The presidential limo
Though new to the industry, the brand was tasked with creating a presidential limo; a vehicle that has been described as providing “uncompromising level of ballistic and explosive protection”. The limo will be used Russia’s new state vehicle, catching the attention of many at the inauguration of president Vladimir Putin earlier on in the year.
According to sources, the Aurus brand is propped up by Russia’s Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute, NAMI. This is under the order of Putin, with the Russian leader believing the country should not be relying on presidential vehicles shipped in from other countries. Setting up the business, Putin now allows the country to boast more control over its state fleet.
So, what features can the president enjoy from his new Aurus? Well, when it comes to speed, the cars are bursting with power. The Senat Limousine is in possession of a 4.4-litre V8 engine. Able to achieve 60mph in just 6 seconds, the car’s hybrid electric motor also offers 590bhp. Collaborating with Porsche to build the engine, the end-result has been nothing but impressive.
The Russian Rolls Royce?
While unique in its own right, the vehicle created has been compared to various Rolls Royce models. Though centered on privacy, luxury and power, can the Aurus really compete with the British carmakers? We would love to hear your thoughts.
