A daring rally driver from Tasmania has earned the nickname of the Tasmanian Devil after he continued to race his Lamborghini sports car across the finish line to win the rally despite the fact his vehicle had caught on fire.

The jaw-dropping incident occurred as the driver, Jason White, was nearing the finishing stages of the Targa High Mountain Rally. The brand new Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradle suddenly caught alight with flames coming out of the rear of the luxury car as it neared the last few bends of the rally.

While most rally drivers would have immediately pulled over and doused the flames in an attempt to salvage their precious sports car, Jason White only had victory on his mind, and instead hit the accelerator, powering through to the finishing line to clinch first place and 10 second ahead of the second place driver.

The rally driver’s daring antics meant he succeeded in passing reigning rally champion, Tony Quinn who was behind the wheel of a Nissan GT-R, despite being four seconds behind coming into the finishing stages.

Luckily for the plucky rally driver, the finishing line was opposite a fire station, with the fire brigade quickly coming to the aid of the Lamborghini, putting the fire out in a matter of minutes.

With the fire extinguished, the £385,000 Lamborghini was then free to go and make its victory lap of honour at the winner’s circle, much to the delight of the onlookers.

The owner of a rare Aston Martin sports car in Belgium was caught speeding by police after a video, made by a passenger in his car, was posted on YouTube showing the driver hitting 293 kilometres on the speedometer, which is 182mph.

The Belgium police decided to investigate the incident after footage of the exclusive sports car hitting high speeds on a highway near Flanders in Northern Belgium was being reported about in the media.

Although the video taken by the passenger focuses on the speedometer, and shows the car weaving in and out of moderately heavy traffic on the motorway, the car’s registration plate is never seen in this particular video. However the driver of the Aston Martin gave himself away by describing the vehicle as a “Carbon Black Edition” hand painted of which there are only three of this kind in the whole of Belgium.

Due to the exclusivity of the sports car, and through information captured on videos by other road users who filmed the speeding Aston Martin, the police have been successful in tracking down the driver, and it’s been reported they will be able to prosecute on the basis of the video evidence. If they are successful in bringing charges against the driver he could be hit with a hefty fine and stand to lose his driver’s licence and vehicle licence.

Ferrari is the latest luxury brand to offer its customers the chance to create a completely bespoke sports car courtesy of their new personalisation service, Tailor Made.

First unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month, Ferrari cars can now be tailored in order to create a truly unique and one-off vehicle for each customer; although the cost of equipping your new sports car with extra special design features doesn’t come cheap, with the cost of tailoring a Ferrari using the new service adding between 20 – 60% more to the price of the new car.

Launching the new Tailor Made service will no doubt help Ferrari boosts its profit margins. The luxury car maker announced that it will only sell a maximum of 7,000 vehicles a year to ensure the brand retains its exclusivity, but with the car making industry being squeezed like any other industry, the Tailor Made service is likely to be an insurance strategy to ensure Ferrari capitalises from each sale as much as possible.

At the recent Motor Show, Ferrari displayed one example from its Tailor Made range, showcasing a Matt blue sports car with matching denim and leather trim interior. There’s no limit to the list of innovative and unique features Ferrari offer as part of their personalisation service including cashmere covered upholstery, gold exterior, and an extensive choice of exclusive finishes and materials available to give Ferrari cars the ultimate Wow Factor.

Other luxury car manufacturers also offer this type of bespoke styling, including Porsche and Bentley.
