Car hire business booming in Turkey

The car hire business in Turkey is booming this year with rental rates set to rise again just as the peak holiday season gets underway.

As a result of the surge in business, vehicle rental prices have shot up as car hire providers struggle to cope with demand which has resulted in the inflated rental rates.

It’s been estimated that the amount of business produced by car rentals in Turkey has risen by 50% this year. This has had a knock-on effect on the price of car hire which has also increased by approximately 30%. This increase in car hire prices is predicted to continue right through until the autumn.

More tourists visiting the country has been the main cause of the boom, although one car hire owner in Turkey says there is another reason why the demand is so high this year.

It’s been suggested that Turkish expats who may be living in countries such as Germany or the Netherlands would have previously driven to Turkey for a home visit during the year. However with the increased fuel prices and low airline fares, more and more are opting to fly home to Turkey and then hire a vehicle for the duration of their stay.

The condition of hire cars in Turkey is fair with the average vehicle being between 1 and 3 years old. Most are fitted with satellite navigation systems. In order to be eligible for car hire in Turkey you must have held a valid driver’s license for at least two years.

Chauffeur driven car carrying German presidential candidate hits cyclist

A chauffeur driven car carrying a German presidential candidate knocked down a cyclist at the end of last month while travelling through the city of Munich.

The chauffeur car was carrying 70-year-old Joachim Gauck who was canvassing during the run-up to the presidential election at the time of the accident.

The incident happened on June 23rd, just days before the election was due to take place on June 30th. Gauck lost out in the election campaign to Christian Wulff who was named the new German President when the results were announced last week.

The car was driven by a chauffeur employed by the Bavarian State Parliament and was transporting Gauck to Munich Airport, following a meeting with state legislators in the city.

It’s been reported that the chauffeur hadn’t seen the cyclist until it was too late after the bike shot out from between two parked cars, cutting straight across the path of the car as it attempted to cross the road.

The car hit the bike, the impact of which forced the cyclist onto the bonnet of the vehicle, sending him crashing into the windscreen. The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital where he was said to be in a critical condition.

Neither Joachim Gauck nor the chauffeur were injured as a result of the collision.

Chauffeur Company out of pocket after internet connection is wrongly cut off

A chauffeur hire company from Wokingham is counting the costs after the firm’s internet connection was wrongly cut off while new telephone cables were being installed.

The taxi and executive chauffeur hire company estimates they lost £3,000 worth of business during the three day period while the internet connection was terminated.

The executive travel firm, which counts Mizuno and Microsoft amongst its regular clients, relies on the internet to keep in contact with its chauffeurs. All jobs are relayed to their chauffeurs via email, a modern version of the traditional radio system more commonly used by taxi and private hire firms.

But with the internet connection down for 3 days, the company was forced to rely on mobile phone contact to inform their drivers of fares. This proved time consuming and less efficient and as a result, some clients were let down.

The error with the internet connection occurred after a subcontractor of BT wrongly cancelled the company’s broadband subscription when new telephone cables were being installed at the firm’s HQ.

BT have apologised to the private hire firm for the inconvenience experienced due to the mix up.

The chauffeur company is now trying to make amends with clients who were affected by the problem and were unable to obtain the company’s service during this time.
